Home Staging for TV’s Property Ladder
by Nickie Rothwell
I was very excited when producers from TLC’s Property Ladder television show contacted me to request our assistance in staging a home that was going to be featured on the program. Members of the Bradford family were planning to renovate their 1940’s Los Angeles home, and TLC wanted us to stage the home after the renovation to prepare it for being sold. You can see the before and after photos below.
One reason Get Staged 2 Sell was particularly suited to stage the Bradford home is related to a fairly unique requirement. TLC wanted this home to have fine art pieces that could be shown on the program. If you’ve watched Property Ladder, you know that many times the artwork in the home is electronically distorted because TLC cannot obtain a release from the artist to use the images on television. Since I know a successful artist, I was able to assist TLC by providing the art and the artist’s release.
The Bradfords faced several challenges during the renovation, so the project was delayed more than once. However, I met with the family about half-way through the renovation process. We discussed the project, and I was able to make some recommendations on final finishes. I even helped them identify some of the trees in their yard!
Two weeks before the renovation was complete, we met again to complete the staging design plan. On the day my team and I arrived to do the staging, we discovered a lot of activity! Normally, we do the staging when no one is home. For this project, the Bradfords were still working on finishing touches, and there was an almost constant flow of friends, neighbors, and real estate agents looking at the house.
We were still able to complete the staging in one day, and everyone was extremely pleased with the result. The program featuring the Bradford’s home renovation aired several times in September, 2006.
