Home Staging an Older Home-Can You Stage Around a Dated Countertop Successfully?

When Staging an older home or condominium for sale or to enhance your lifestyle, you often will have surfaces that are dated, yet still in good condition.  While I always recommend a fresh coat of paint and carpet whenever it is in the budget, there are oftentimes ways that you can keep your existing countertops, cabinets and other surfaces and Stage around them successfully.

In this home, shown below, the countertop, cabinets and sinks were original from when the building was constructed.  By changing the hardware, painting the cabinets in a modern color that coordinates well with the countertop and changing out the sinks to nice new bright ones, this master bath suddenly works for today’s lifestyle, without the expense of a new bath.

So if you are on a budget and want to get your home Staged for sale or Staged to reflect your modern lifestyle, be creative.  Choose colors that when used with your existing pieces will not only coordinate well, but will give them a modern edge in an up to date color palette that reflects both your home and you.

Home Staging - Remember Closets Are Valuable Real Estate

Staging a home for sale involves getting the entire property to show its best.  Highlighting the home’s assets and making the best use of its unique features is the Home Stager’s goal.  Closet space is something that you may not want to have to face, but your buyer’s will certainly be looking in to see what your home has to offer in this department.

Whether your property is vacant or occupied, make your Home Stager’s job easier by having your closet ready to show.  If your home is occupied, pack out of season clothing and shoes, label the boxes and store them.  Gift items that no longer fit.  If your home is vacant, add a few decorative hangers and colorful bags for a cheery feeling.

If your home is being painted or new flooring is put in, remember the closets.  You want these small rooms fresh too.  Consider adding a few organizers to make the space more functional as well as attractive.

As you put your items back into your fresh clean closet, be certain not to crowd it.  Keep a bit of space between items whenever possible.  Let buyers enjoy this peek into your closet.  Let them enjoy the mental picture of how they would fill this clean, fresh space with their own things.  After all, closets are valuable Real Estate too.
